Gatsby in the Great Gatsby, is majorly ahead of his time. He is a forward thinker, very intelligent and easily stands above every other character in the book. He throws vast and expensive parties in which "everyone whose anyone" attends. Dan Flavin and his art work also shares the similar characteristics that Gatsby has, in the fact that Flavin was ahead of his time. He used his florescent art to represent what is now modern art. Although seemingly simple, it is a very complex placement of different colored U.V lights which in turn create a single projected blur of color. This was something not many other modern artists were able to achieve as so with Gatsby, as nobody could live up to the character and symbol he presented.
